Since we know about biometric facial recognition technology, a lot of issues over personal privacy, malicious use or harassment of a person’s identity have arisen. But as the technology improves, a lot of benefits on how it positively affects our daily lives have arisen as well.

We are not far from getting facial recognition as a technology we live with every day, and the reason we should not be scared is due to the fact that, instead of being something specifically used for fighting crime or public harassment, it is diversifying in terms of purpose and use.

Chui scans people’s faces to provide access control to different spaces. Airports are implementing facial recognition as part of the boarding process, and many more companies, institutions and corporations are moving towards that type of day-to-day security. This is not to have a bunch of people’s faces inside a database in case something bad happens, but because it is more accurate and secure than other access methods. Like Chui’s slogan states: “Your face is unique and cannot be transferred to someone else”, hence it would be the safest key to secure your workspace, your home, your travels, your purchases, your belongings, your back account, your credit card, and many more things.

The more that people understand facial recognition and how it works, the more secure and confident people will become with the technology. It’s a comparable process to getting used to smartphones, bluetooth, face detection cameras, snapchat filters and all those other technologies that in the last decade have changed the way we move, communicate, and live.
